One of the highlights of our fundraising, is our Strictly Tea Dancing afternoon, which was held on Sunday 27th November 2016 at The Langham Hotel, London. We must give the biggest thanks to The Langham for all their help and effort, everyone who took part not only on stage and dance floor but those who contributed to the Auction, and also we must not forget yourselves for being there. The £20 note draw was won by C. W. Downes.
Well, what can we say about it – it was such a fantastic occasion. From the off we had Gary Williams and his Band playing as we all walked into the Ballroom. Then we had champagne afternoon tea while Gary treated us to some fantastic songs from his wide ranging repertoire. Gary always adds a real ‘swing’ to the afternoon.
The Strictly Come Dancing professionals included Ian Waite and Erin Boag, Oksana and Jonathan Platero, plus young newcomers AG Pritchard and his dance partner Chloe Hewitt. Brian Conley, who introduced the dancers said, “Don’t they look sickeningly young? When Strictly Come Dancing first started in 2004, AJ was only aged nine and he has literally grown up watching the series.” All the dancers certaintly thrilled guests with their skilled performances
Robert (Judge) Rinder and his Strictly dance partner Oksana Platero glided across the floor giving a splendid performance and showed why they are still in the Strictly Come Dancing competiton. We must thank them for taking the time out of their hectic schedule to support the Foundation.
Big thanks also to Brian Conley for his introductions and for hosting the afternoon with great humour, Brian also sang a duet with Gary Williams which went down a storm. And of course to Christopher Biggins for doing the Auction. Then the Sing Out Sisters finished the afternoon off with a great rousing set.
We were thrilled this year to have as cabaret, the principal stars of the highly successful musical ‘Mamma Mia’ Mazz Murray, Linzi Hateley and Jo Napthine. They appeared in their iconic costumes and treated us to a wonderful array of ABBA songs from the finale of the show, bringing enthusiastic guests to their feet to dance. And at the end had the guests chanting for ‘more’.
We are so grateful to the creator of the musical, Judy Craymer, for her generosity in allowing this to take place.
